Pine Mountain Public Safety Center

The Pine Mountain Public Safety Center was designed to match other commercial structures in town. Arches top the apparatus bay doors, entrance doors and windows. Care was taken to match existing brick color as closely as possible. Free-standing light fixtures in front of the entrance doors resemble old hitching posts. Lights located along the bay doors, even with the windows, resemble old style lanterns.
The Pine Mountain Public Safety Center has been the town’s most ambitious project since construction of the wetlands sewer system.
Both the Pine Mountain Fire Department and Pine Mountain Police Department are housed in the facility, but the two agencies are separated inside the structure which measures about 80 feet by 100 feet.
The training room and kitchen are shared by both agencies, which served to cut costs, but after that, access is restricted into the respective areas.
The fire station section of the building includes a three-bay, pull-through apparatus bay. At 80 feet deep, each bay could house two fire engines. Also in the apparatus bay is an equipment room that runs the entire 80-foot length of the bay. A smaller storage room is also located in the apparatus bay.
A day room in the fire station is still being furnished as is the bunkroom. The Harris County Emergency Medical Service is scheduled to place an ambulance in the fire station section of the Pine Mountain Public Safety Center in January. By that point, furnishing of the day room and bunkroom will be completed.
The fire station contains two offices, one for the fire chief and the second serves as a records office. A utility room contains a standard washer and dryer. A commercial washer, to be used in washing turn-out gear, is located in the apparatus bay. The fire station has four restrooms, two of which contain showers.
The fire department had been housed in a small two-bay station that barely held two fire trucks. Some of the department’s equipment had to be kept in a variety of locations. Pine Mountain firefighters are ecstatic at being able to keep all of the vehicles and equipment in a single location.
The Pine Mountain Public Safety Center was designed by Precision Planning of Lawrenceville. D. Dean and Associates, of Columbus, served as the General Contractors for construction of the center.
