For the
second Saturday in a row, the Pine Mountain Fire Department
sponsored live fire training in a vacant house.
While
the first training session involved firefighters from nine area fire
departments, the second session, held November 15, was attended by
firefighters from Pine Mountain and Hopewell.
A
number of interior attacks were conducted before the house was
allowed to burn down.
Over
the two days of live fire training, nearly 50 fires were started
inside the house. Teams of firefighters took turns attacking the
fires. Instructors and experienced firefighters offered help and
assistance.
During
both training sessions, firefighters were taught to use minimal
amounts to lessen collateral damage.
Most
importantly, no injuries were suffered during the training.
The
ability to burn a house for training purposes is both a rare and
welcome event for firefighters.
