Pine
Mountain held its annual Light up Pine Mountain event on Friday,
November 14, with the fire department bringing two special guests.
Coordinated with the opening of Fantasy in Lights at Callaway
Gardens, Light up Pine Mountain opens the Holiday Season in the
city.
The
Chamber of Commerce and Merchant’s Association sponsors the party.
Fog and
misty rain dampened the streets but not the enthusiasm of the many
people that had gathered on Broad Street, which was closed to
traffic for the event.
The
crowd enjoyed Christmas music provided by choirs from Christ the
King Catholic Church and Park Elementary School, along with Darlene
and Randy Dameron. Pine Mountain Mayor Joey Teel officially open the
Christmas Season and had the Holiday lights turned on.
Of
course all the children were waiting on Santa Claus, and right on
schedule the jolly old elf was delivered to Light up Pine Mountain,
arriving on Quint 1201, red light guiding the way through the foggy
night.
But
Santa was not the only visitor that night. To the delight of the
children, Sparky the Fire Dog was also in the fire truck.
Both
Santa and Sparky spent considerable time with the children.
The
Pine Mountain Fire Department is already preparing for Operation
Santa Claus.
On
Christmas Eve, beginning about 5:30 p.m., the department ride Santa
on every street in town with firefighters distributing pencils and
candy canes to all the children that come out to see Santa. |
