Firefighters from Pine Mountain, with automatic mutual aid from
Hopewell, responded to a structure fire at the Day’s Inn motel on
Sunday, May 17.
About 4:15 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire at the rear
of the structure and that was closely followed by the report of
heavy smoke showing.
While firefighters were enroute, yet another report indicated the
burning building contained chemicals for the hotel’s swimming pool.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to actually find two buildings
burning. A storage building located behind the pool and used for
storage of motel supplies, was fully involved. The fire had just
spread to a second small building, located on one end of the pool,
which contained restrooms and pool chemicals.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in the second pool to
reduce any potential threat posed by the pool chemicals. Once that
was accomplished, firefighters turned their attention to the
building which had initially caught fire, and rapidly extinguished
it.
The building that initially began burning was fully involved before
firefighters arrived. A motel employee walking to the rear of the
facility saw the fire and turned in the alarm.
Quint 1201 responded as the primary engine with an 1-3/4 attack line
deployed to extinguish the fire. Engine 1202, which carries 1,000
gallons of water, responded and provided water. Engine 501, which
also carries 1,000 gallons of water, staged at the nearest fire
hydrant, but was ultimately not needed. Squad 12 was also staged at
the scene. Both Engine 501 and Squad 12 were kept ready to respond
to another alarm.
There were no injuries in connection with the incident. |
