Pine Mountain firefighters, along with firefighters from other
Harris County fire departments, joined a search for human remains on
May 26-27.
During the Memorial Day Holiday, a hunter was in the woods along
I-185 near the Ga. Hwy. 18 interchange looking for deer racks.
Instead, the hunter found what appeared to be a human skull.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of
Investigation were summoned to the scene.
The skull had what appeared to be a small caliber bullet hole in the
rear.
Cadaver dogs and firefighters searched the area finding several more
bones, including what appeared to be a femur and part of a pelvis.
On the first day of the search conducted Tuesday, May 26,
firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after noon and remained on
the scene until about 6:00 p.m. They had to contend with
intermittent rain squalls and thunderstorms while conducting the
search.
The effort resumed Wednesday, May 27, at 9:00 a.m. and continued
until about 2:30 p.m.
Bones were found on both days.
Four Pine Mountain firefighters participated in the search effort.
The Pine Mountain Fire Department offered to provide lunch for the
search teams and use of the department’s Polaris Ranger, but neither
offer was utilized. |
