Firefighters Assist at Wildlands Fire

Firefighters from Pine Mountain were summoned to assist in controlling and extinguishing a wildlands fire on Saturday, February 27.

The fire was located in the Hopewell Community, in the area of Salem Road and Ga. Hwy. 18.

Reports indicate that fire started as a controlled burn, but the windy conditions drove the fire into the nearby woods.

The Hopewell Fire Department was the first unit dispatched to the scene, followed by Northwest Harris and Pine Mountain, and the Georgia Forestry Commission.

About 20 acres burned before firefighters brought the fire under control.

No structures were threatened during the incident and there were no injuries.
