Christmas 2014, the Town of Pine Mountain and Pine Mountain Fire
Department joined the City of Hamilton and Hamilton Fire Department
in helping spread Christmas cheer.
The event was the Mayor’s Motorcade held at West Central Georgia
Sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association, the Mayor’s
Motorcade begin in 1958 as an effort to bring Christmas cheer and
help provide Christmas gifts to patients in Georgia’s mental health
and retardation hospitals.
It was noted during the program that over 60 percent of the patients
at West Central Georgia Regional Hospital have no contact with
family members. In too many cases, families have abandoned them to
the care of the state.
Without the Mayor’s Motorcade, for such patients and residents,
Christmas would be just another day.
Cities participating in the Mayor’s Motorcade gather donations of
gifts and clothing for the patients and residents of the hospitals.
In police vehicles and fire apparatus, gifts and clothing gathered
by Hamilton and Pine Mountain were delivered to West Central Georgia
Regional Hospital, along with contributions from other cities and
The program included Christmas music supplied by Grace Covenant
Church trio and residents at the hospital. A luncheon was provided
and those mayors attending were recognized, including Becky Chambers
of Hamilton, and Jim Trott of Pine Mountain.
The Mayor’s Motorcade concluded with a parade around the West
Central Georgia Regional Hospital campus. The parade included
decorated golf carts, police vehicles and fire apparatus, and was
attended by Santa and Mrs. Claus – both of whom rode on the control
station on Pine Mountain Quint 1201.
Hamilton has been participating in this event for many years.
This was the first year for the Town of Pine Mountain and Pine
Mountain Fire Department, but plans are already being made to
participate again next year.
