More Fire Extinguisher Training

On Thursday, Jan. 22, firefighters from Hamilton, Hopewell and Pine Mountain conducted a cooperative training class utilizing fire extinguishers.

This is a class repeated on a regular basis as small interior fires can often be extinguished using an ABC or water extinguisher. This causes much less collateral damage than pulling an attack line inside a home and putting a hundred gallons of water on more on a fire.

The class involved utilizing flammable liquids in a contained vessel. Facing burning flammable liquids, firefighters and trainees used ABC extinguishers and water extinguishers that included F500 encapsulator foam, to repeatedly extinguish fires.

Adding F500 and a spray nozzle to water extinguishers allows them to be used for a variety of purposes. All of Pine Mountain Fire Department’s water extinguishers use F500 mixed with water and spray nozzles.

The mixture can also be used on vehicle fires, again reducing collateral damage
