A number of rookie firefighters participated in their first live
fire exercise on Saturday, May 2.
In addition to Pine Mountain Fire Department, the rookie
firefighters came from Cataula, Hamilton and Hopewell.
Held at the Harris County Training Center, the training was
conducted as part of the Registered Volunteer Fire Fighting class
that was underway.
The class started with a settee, during which students could witness
the progression of a fire from the incipient stage to the point it
is rolling down from the ceiling. The students had the opportunity
to witness the formation of the thermal layer and experienced what
can happen when that layer is disturbed.
After the settee, the students learned how to conduct same grade,
above grade, and below grade fire attacks.
During the training burn, temperatures inside the facility climbed
to 1,000 degrees
