An accident on Hopewell Church Road on the morning of Saturday May
30, sent two grandparents to the hospital while leaving their two
The accident took place shortly after 10:30 a.m. near 5414 Hopewell
Church Road, which is west of Pine Mountain.
Pine Mountain residents James and Charlotte Pollock were traveling
west in a Nissan Quest. With the Pollocks were two of their
Irmtraut O’Connor, of Columbus, was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis
heading east toward Pine Mountain.
The cars entered a curve and what transpired in the curve is being
investigated by the Georgia State Patrol. Whatever happened, the
result was the two vehicles collided.
After the collision both vehicles traveled onto the eastbound
embankment with the Mercury coming to a stop at the tree line, with
extensive damage to the front of the car.
The Nissan had damage along the right front and along the passenger
Report of the accident had the Harris County Sheriff’s Office,
Harris County EMS, and Georgia State Patrol along with firefighters
from Hopewell and Pine Mountain responding to the scene.
James and Charlotte Pollock were treated at the scene and
transported to the hospital. Other than some soreness from the seat
belts, the grandchildren were uninjured.
After being checked at the scene by a Harris County paramedic,
O’Conner declined further treatment.
